Fall 2008 Registration Information for History MajorsRegistration Information for History Majors: for Fall 2008
Registration for Fall 2008 is here. Please make sure to read this information carefully before making inquiries! If a question is asked that is answered in this email you will be referred back to this email.
The following topics will be addressed in this email:
- Registration Advisement for Students Here and Abroad
- Registration Clearance
- Access Codes
- Faculty Mentoring
1. Registration Advisement
***REGISTRATION ADVISEMENT BEGINS ON MONDAY, March 31st AND GOES THROUGH FRIDAY, April 18th. PLEASE SEE THE ADVISING SCHEDULE BELOW—AND PLAN ACCORDINGLY!***
All History Majors that are Currently on Campus
1. Fill out a Registration Worksheet (also obtainable on the wooden table in front of the history department office). The Fall 2008 Schedule is available on the history undergraduate website here: http://history.fas.nyu.edu/object/io_1205183282164.html
2. You MUST print out a copy of your Degree Progress (from ALBERT). The registration advisors cannot help you if they don’t know what classes you’ve taken.
· All history majors (including seniors & BA/MA students) must see one of the department’s registration advisors. Please bring your registration worksheet and your Albert Degree Progress sheet to the meeting.
· The registration advising period will be March 31st through April 18th; the hours will be Monday through Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm on the 6th floor of the King Juan Carlos Center in room 612. Registration advising office hours will not be by appointment; they will be walk-in only on a first come-first served basis. Please do not ask if you can see a registration advisor before the above dates.
· Advisors must sign off on your Registration Worksheet, and the student must place it in the appropriate box in 612. Keep in mind that registration advisors in the History Department can only answer questions about history major requirements. They cannot answer any general questions about MAP, language tests, or any classes that don’t pertain to the history major.
3. If you are a double major you can be cleared for registration by either major department but; you should see an advisor in both departments to make sure you are on track for both majors.
* The registration worksheet by no means gaurantees that the courses you have noted will be counted toward the major - it is simply a tool to help you figure out what requirements you have left to fill.
All History Majors that are Currently Abroad
History majors currently studying abroad must send a completed registration worksheet to Sadie Paschke (sadie.paschke@nyu.edu) with a list of potential classes for Fall 2008. I will clear you for registration within 2 business days starting March 31.
2. Registration Clearance
· All students will be cleared to register within 2 business days of placing their SIGNED registration worksheet in the appropriate box in the history department. (except for April 10th and April 11th when it will take 3-4 business days)
· Students will not be cleared unless they follow the above instructions.
· Plan Ahead!
3. Access Codes
Access codes are required for all Internships and Independent Studies but are not required for most seminars and workshops. Senior History majors will still have priority for these courses but the process has changed. This process is now automatic in the sense that senior history majors are given an earlier registration date and can enroll in these courses before juniors who can register before sophomores who can, in turn, register before freshmen.
Because of this new system you must be extremely careful when adding and dropping courses. The waitlist is automatic which means if you accidentally drop a course I don’t have the ability to put you back in it.
There are a couple of courses that still require access codes which are given out by the professors. For these access codes please contact the professor directly. There is a list of faculty office hours and contact information on our website: http://history.fas.nyu.edu/page/undergrad. You still must be cleared for registration before you can register for these courses.
If you are interested in doing an Independent Study or Internship there is information on the same website as listed above along with the required forms and instructions.
4. Faculty Mentoring
The History Department has developed a mentorship program to give you more opportunities to meet with faculty to discuss academic issues and interests. Each major is assigned a Faculty mentor with whom he/she will meet throughout the semester to discuss these issues and interests. We are urging students to take advantage of this new program. You will be contacted by your faculty mentor.
Please contact Sadie Paschke if you have any questions. If a question is asked that is answered in this email you will be referred back to this email.
Cheers,
Sadie
