Supporting Materials Tracking System (SMTS)

Applications are processed through the Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS), not through the Department of History, hence we are unable to confirm receipt of an online or paper application or supplementary application materials here in the Department. If you have submitted your application, you may check which application materials the Graduate School has received on your behalf by visiting the GSAS Supporting Materials Tracking System (SMTS) on the GSAS web site (see below for more information). Please rest assured that if application materials have been received by the Graduate School as indicated on SMTS, we will receive them here in the Department in due course.

In order to use SMTS, you need to know your NYU University ID number (UID). You receive your UID in the acknowledgement letter that the Graduate School sends you by mail after it processes your application.

Please be aware that the Graduate School processes almost 11,000 applications in the order in which they are received. Thus, it can take GSAS approximately three weeks to process your application and mail you the acknowledgement letter with your UID.

If you have not yet received your acknowledgement letter and at least three weeks have passed since you submitted your online application (or four weeks if you mailed us your application), then you may obtain your UID through SMTS.

Please do not use SMTS until you know your UID, or until at least three to four weeks have passed from the time you submitted your application.

The web site for SMTS is

http://www.nyu.edu/gsas/request/smts.html

** If you see that materials are missing from your file--
SMTS is updated at least twice a week. Check back often if your application is missing any supporting materials. However, please do not call or email Graduate Enrollment Services to check on missing materials until after January 20, 2009.

** Regarding test scores--
If you do not see your test scores listed, please go to http://gsas.nyu.edu/object/grad.admissions.testscores. Please make sure you have followed the instructions provided on that page and that you have sent your official test scores from GRE or TOEFL to the correct school code for GSAS (2596). Most important, read down to the bottom of that page to see the date through which GSAS has recorded test scores in the admissions system. If you took the test after that date, or requested that ETS send us your test scores after that date, GSAS will not yet show them in the system and you should check back later. Do not be concerned if this happens. However, if you took the test and had scores sent to GSAS before the date that is listed, but they are not reported in SMTS, then follow the instructions on that page to inform GSAS of that fact.

** Regarding address updates--
To update or correct your address (mailing, permanent or email), please go to the address corrections and updates page on the web at http://gsas.nyu.edu/object/grad.admissions.aacu.

Please keep checking back with SMTS regularly to see if materials or test scores have been added to your file.
