The program offers up to ten scholarships to rising juniors from across the university who are interested in changing the world for the better; it also provides a fairly intensive co-curricular component designed both to augment each student's chosen course of study and to help each student realize a vision for creating sustainable and scalable change.

The program is looking for academically accomplished students with leadership potential and the drive and determination to have a positive impact on the world.  Eligible candidates can be interested in developing and executing an idea for change, being part of the infrastructure needed to carry it out, or inspiring others to action through media and the arts. The most successful candidates tend to be students who have already distinguished themselves in their various NYU schools. Applications are due January 27, 2009.

MATCH Corps

An urban education service year at the MATCH School in Boston, MA. The MATCH school employs 40 recent college graduates to live in the school in a dorm-style residence on the top floor. For one academic year they meet with 5 students, paired with them at the beginning of the year, and tutor them every day 1-on-1 in their classroom subjects. The student body is almost entirely African American and Latino, and their school mission is to erase the racial achievement gap that afflicts so many urban high schools in our country. Because of the Corps and their tireless staff their student body is very high achieving--our largely poor, minority student body recently ranked #1 in the state in the MCAS math proficiency test among state 10th graders, and this spring Newsweek ranked MATCH as one of the top-25 public high schools in the country!
